Jorgen Johansson has an artist’s eye and a journalist’s sensibility. Certainly, he has the requisite skills, gained during his time studying at the prestigious New England School of Photography in Boston. His C.V. is impressive too as a freelancer and as a photographer and photo editor with Norra Skåne and Skånska Dagbladet. But where Jorgen shines is in his ability to show the humanity within the inhumane. His portfolio of work gives a voice to the silenced and a stage to the disenfranchised. Whether he is chronicling the striking contrast of joy and disparity in the aboriginal families of Pine Ridge, South Dakota or the fire-scorched lives of the men who stoke the funeral pyres on the banks of the Ganges in India; his vision stimulates compassion and his commitment provokes thought. When he removes the camera strap from around his neck, it is quickly replaced by a guitar. His songwriting and performances have taken Jorgen throughout Scandinavia, the UK, the United States and Canada. This connection to music affords him the insight and insider status to capture musicians and the arts from a very unique perspective.
