Julia Lindemalm (born 1984) lives in Malmö and works as a freelance photographer. She is holds a BA in photojournalism from Midsweden University and has studied Advanced Visual Storytelling at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus. In addition to photography she has studied Critical Animal Studies at Lund University. In her work, she explores humans relationship with animals.
She began visiting European zoos in 2011 and the result is a photographic reflection that is simultaneously personal and documentary. ”Zoo World” is an exhibition portraying our relationship with animals in captivity on an existential level. It has been shown several times in galleries in Sweden. Her first book, ”Katt People”, was released in December 2016.
Julia Lindemalm has received Malmö Cultural Committee Arts Scholarship for Artistic Development, TT Photo Agency Grant for young photographers and has been nominated for Joop Swart Masterclass. In 2016 she received the first Lars Tunbjörk Award.Stories:
