Boat of Life - Bangladesh

2009-10-12–2010-10-14

For millions living in Bangladesh’s ganges river delta, the labyrinth of waterways cuts off entire communities from the rest of the country. Jibon Tari, or Boat of Life, is a fully equipped floating hospital that brings essential surgical and medical care to isolated villages by traveling through the river system and docking in remote population centers. It targets the poorest of the poor; many of its patients have never even seen a doctor before. The extreme poor living in the delta already face enormous challenges that threaten survival. To lose sight, hearing or mobility would be devastating. Through Jibon Tari, the Impact Foundation provides a low cost cataract procedure that can restore sight in only five minutes. For these patients, it is their first, and only, hope for a cure.
