Contraceptive against rape - Cameroon

In Cameroon one of five women is the victim of either rape or attempted rape. And the average age of victims is falling. Every other victim is between ten and 15-years-old. That is one reason many Cameroonian mothers now consider breasts on a young woman as dangerous. That fear has given rise to the phenomenon of “breast ironing.” The process entails using hot objects to massage and burn the skin on the chest of young girls in an attempt to hinder the development of their breasts. At the root of this phenomenon lies the relative powerlessness of mother’s in trying to protect their daughters.
